Personalized Tutoring for Children and Adults to Bridge the Education Gap

New Graduate: Ebon T.

Ebon T, GED Tutoring Program and Skills for Life Program Graduate, and now a City of Detroit employee.

It has been almost 10 years since I have been out of school. I always wanted to go back and finish getting my diploma, but I always felt it wasn’t time. When I arrived at St. Vincent and Sarah Fisher Center, I was introduced to a wonderful group of staff and tutors who were committed to assisting me in reaching my goal. The adult program managers Len, Tracie, and Aubrey along with one of their many volunteers, Vince, were all kind and very encouraging. Because of the staff and volunteers, I passed almost all of the tests to achieve my GED with flying colors! It was a real struggle until I came face to face with the math portion. The first time I took the math test, I did not pass by 1 point. Vince spent more time with me tutoring me on my math. The next time I took the math portion of the test, I passed! I went in with confidence and that helped me to achieve my goal of getting my GED! Now I look forward to finding a career in carpentry through an apprenticeship program. Thank you SVSF Center!
